    Is Forever Enough?

For the weekend, I thought I'd leave you with photos of the seven peeps taken during this last tour:

    Natalie with Slade and Beckett

    Henry on the loose!

    Martie and the twins

Brent gives Gus a haircut, which was not particularly welcome

    Julesy gives Anne butterfly kisses

Hope you and your peeps have a great weekend!

    DCX in ATL

Whoops, I forgot to link to the new "Whistling Dixie" article, which is now up on the main page. You can read more about the Sing-A-Long that took place backstage, among other things.  Above is a floor-level view of the pink shoe showdown between Charla, who is mentioned in the article, and Natalie.

But I Do Think This Could Negatively Affect Tea

In addition to getting the approval of the optimistic Lipton Tea representative (featured in Shut Up and Sing), the Dixie Chicks are racking up more critical kudos, above and beyond the quintet of Grammy nominations. Among other things:

    • The Chicks' most recently recorded song, "The Neighbor," is up for Best Song over at the Critics' Choice Awards. Shut Up and Sing is also up for Best Documentary Feature.
    • Shut Up and Sing also continues to pop up on numerous critics' year-end lists. Most notably, the National Board of Review, a major bellwether for Oscar nominations, put the film in its Top 5 documentaries. The Boston Society of Film Critics also chose it (along with the excellent Deliver Us From Evil) for Best Documentary.
    • The DCX album Taking The Long Way is also perched at the very top of Amazon.com's Top 100 Customers' Favorites of 2006. In your face, Bocelli! As of now, TTLW is also the fourth best selling album in the United States of all albums that were released in 2006. (This could change if I proceed with my idea to buy Playing With Fire as a stocking stuffer for every child in America.)
    • Rolling Stone put "The Long Way Around" at #20 for their Best Songs of 2006. Poplicks put that song at #4 and "Silent House" at #40, but those guys are a little biased.
    • Finally, on Monday, the ACLU of Southern California bestowed the Chicks with the Bill of Rights Awards. Bill Maher presented the award, Natalie accepted, and I was present to document, so you can look forward to a future article with more details.
Given all this good news, I'm especially disappointed that any of you have spent a second of your lives believing any preposterous rumors that the Chicks are hatching a plan to split up. Please! For shame!

    Five Grammy Nominations!

The Chicks look good next to a gramophone, don't they?

What a way to end a tour. Martie, Emily, and Natalie woke up from their first day of vacation to discover the news that they just scored the coveted trinity of Grammy nominations: (1) Record and (2) Song of the Year (for "Not Ready to Make Nice") and (3) Album of the Year (for "Taking The Long Way").  They are the only artist to score a nomination in all three of the big categories.

Guess who's returning to the Staples Center in February?

If you ask me, it's an amazing accomplishment, given what little support they've received from radio. To my surprise, they also earned nominations for (4) Best Country Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal and (5) Best Country Album. Unfortunately, they did not get nominated for Best Polka Album.

Rick Rubin, who produced "Taking The Long Way," also garnered a nod for Best Producer. (He worked on three of the Album of the Year nominees, which easily makes him a shoo-in for the award.)

For those who wrote the Chicks off back in 2003, this news is quite the coup de grace.

    More to come.

Breaking The Rules at Austin City Limits

Outside the dressing room at Austin City Limits in the KLRU studios, there is a sign that says "No Autographs." Tonight, the naturally rebellious Chicks refused to follow, as you can see from the photo above.

The Chicks just finished taping a great set on Season 32's finale of Austin City Limits. The episode will air on January 20, give or take a few days.

Before a crowd of only 300 or so people, the Chicks ended the tour and their 2006 musical journey with "Wide Open Spaces," shortly before all the equipment was packed up and everyone said their farewells.

You'll eventually be able to read all the details in a forthcoming article on the main MSN page. The approvals will probably take awhile, so be patient.

Thankfully, you don't have to be very patient to find out whether the Chicks will receive any Grammy nominations, since they're about to be announced in a few hours.

    The Last Stop

Here's a photo from last night's show in Dallas, the last stop of the Accidents and Accusations Tour.

But don't you worry ... there's lots more good stuff to come in the coming weeks.  So nobody needs to jump off a cliff just yet.

    Signs The End Is Near

The Chicks are now deep in the heart of Texas.

While you wait for updates, here are some photos of signs that surfaced in recent shows. The remaining fan pics will show up in a photo album eventually, don't you worry.

Unfortunately, the woman having the baby didn't quite make the picture.

    Snakes on a Chick

Last time the Chicks visited the Australia Zoo, Emily was filmed on television with the python draped on her shoulders. On this tour, Natalie was the one documented with a scaled reptile necklace -- this time one with a pale yellow tapering body and dalmatian spots.

I love this photo because you get a sense of how much Natalie becomes like a little kid when she is around animals. Although her favorites are the monkeys, you can see she's quite the snake charmer.

The only problem with this pic is that it kind of reminds me of something else ...

Come to think of it, this photo of Natalie ...

... reminds me of another famous celebrity as well ...

Me thinks Natalie has officially become a pop star.
