    A Crowded Field

Natalie makes some money on the side with her eBay business

Like many of you, I'm disappointed that Shut Up and Sing did not receive an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary this morning.  It's quick a shock, actually, given the kudos it's received from the National Society of Film Critics, the Online Film Critics, and numerous others.

Likewise, "The Neighbor" lost a nod for Best Song to three Dreamgirls ditties, one Melissa Ethridge song, and the obligatory Randy Newman nomination.  I'm surprised Prince didn't make this list, either.  And I'm very bummed I won't get to hear "O Kazakhstan" sung at the Oscars since I have a personal fetish for songs about potassium.

I can't help but wonder whether the multiple Grammy nominations actually hurt the film's chances of garnering a nomination.  Perhaps Academy voters figured that the Chicks are getting their due from the Recording Academy.

Of course, the nominated documentaries are all incredibly important: Deliver Us from Evil, An Inconvenient Truth, Iraq in Fragments, Jesus Camp, and My Country, My Country.  Even without Shut Up and Sing in the mix, it's amazing how nearly every nominated director could thank the Bush Administration for making the film possible.

    I Coulda Been A Contender

Greetings everyone! Yes, I'm back. At last.

Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes, the New Year's wishes, the Kwanzaa wishes, the get-well wishes, and the get-the-hell-back-to-work-
    or-I-will-continue-stabbing-pins-into-my-Junichi-voodoo-doll wishes.

Although it hasn't been finalized, it seems that MSN will be extending my contract for another few months, so you can look forward to original content from me appearing on the http://dixiechicks.msn.com site and on this page for awhile. However, as the Chicks are taking a much-needed and well-deserved rest, the updates will be less often than most of you would like.

For now, how about we start 2007 with some Halloween pictures of Natalie's kids?

Here's Slade, Natalie's oldest son, as Rocky Balboa:

and here's Beckett as Bozo the Clown:

Natalie was quick to point out that her mother, Tina, who is quite the expert with a needle, made Slade's costume all by herself.

As for Beckett's costume, Natalie also pointed out she ordered it all by herself.
